Made it!

The Eagle Has Landed

and was able to get all his luggage although it was touch and go there for a second, I thought I might have to start my vacation with a screaming fit at a Delta representative. The taxi driver on the way over informed me that it is national elections day today in Chile. I wish I could tell you that I had spent the morning running pitched battles for the rebels against the police but everything is rather sleepy and most of the locals have taken refuge from the oppressive mid day sun at the local Plaza.
It has to be said though, that the elections look like a cert for a relatively entrenched poltical group - that is to say that the Party Official de Coca-Cola look to have things pretty well sewn up from what I can tell. If the size of the giant plastic christmas tree (the thing is over 100 feet tall)in the Plaza De Los Armes sponsered by El Coca is anything to go by then this poor country looks destined for the slow dissent into obesity that the rest of us currently take for granted.
Fear not have already seen some resistance to this cultural genocide, pan pipes being played with abandon on the street corner! Wonderful. Anyway - I am off to see if I can get a bus up north tomorrow and hopefully somewhere to crash as well.
